The Containment Flame
What the Archive keeps is not shelved. It is held.
The flame in the Ashen Archive does not warm the room.
It marks a boundary. What lies inside the circle of its light is catalogued, named, and — when the city is fortunate — forgotten by everyone except the keepers.
What lies outside still listens.
The Archive does not collect curiosity. It collects consequence. If a text, a relic, or a rumor has survived long enough to reach Vaelith's halls, it is because something below thought it worth pushing upward — or worth letting someone believe they had found it on their own.
When the flame shifts, the keepers do not ask why.
They ask what moved.
